Davy Smith III '02 Assistant to Executive Vice President
Davy Smith III, native of Portsmouth, VA, is Owner and Managing Member of Smith Consulting and Networking, LLC, providing comprehensive development consulting services to municipalities, universities and private sector entities. Smith has diverse community leadership experience to include: appointment as the youngest African American Chair of Planning Commission for the City of Portsmouth and served as Chairman for six years, Commissioner of Newport Community Development Authority, and currently serving as Chairman for (PRHA) Portsmouth Redevelopment Housing Authority. Smith also serves on Greater Portsmouth Development Corporation as a Board Member and The Portsmouth Partnership as an Ex- offico as well. Smith’s impact within the Portsmouth community includes coordination with public officials on master plan funding requirements, evaluation of sites for potential redevelopment to spur local business and employment, discussions on possible tax credits, and facilitating collaborations amongst public and private entities parties.
Smith’s additional professional and service affiliations include: Silver Life Member and Second Vice President of the NAACP Chapter of Portsmouth; Parliamentarian (2012-15) and current member of Hampton Roads Urban League Young Professionals; Vice President (2014-14) of I. C. Norcom Alumni Association, and member of Omega Psi Phi, Fraternity, Inc. Zi Iota Graduate Chapter (Pi Gamma Spring 02 NSU), member of Whitney Young Jr. Social Work Club at Norfolk State University, Portsmouth NSU Alumni Chapter, and the National Youth Sports Program (NYSP), mentor for the Brambleton Outreach Center - Norfolk, VA and is a Certified Peer Advisor.
Smith earned his Bachelors’ degree in Social Work from Norfolk State University in 2002, and remains active as a mentor, transformation and mindset coach in Portsmouth and surrounding Hampton Roads area. Smith has been happily married for 11 years to the lovely Trena W. Smith.
